Common available web creation tools are Dreamweaver. You can also use this Wiki.  Documents created in Microsoft Word can also be saved and linked as webpages.  Choose what you are comfortable with.

Topics Covered briefly

1. Discussion

Don't write wimpy. If you have an opinion, state and defend it. If you know that a statement does not hold in certain cases, enumerate the exceptions. But don't use terms as "X may be Y", if you actually believe that "X is Y" and want to convey that to the reader. If you write wimpy the reader has to think about what you really meant to say. You are protecting yourself by putting a burden on the reader.  We will follow-up soon with: Scientific publication, an area in turmoil.  The discussion became an update to Notes00.

2. Topics

Topics for the project were elicited. They are shown here with some comments

1.      A web site to support a computing training school in New Delhi.

2.  <add>

Some proposals from the 2005/2006 year were:

3. Buying and selling Bicycles among students.  Should be generalized, too narrow as presented.

4.      A fan site for the Boston Red Sox

5. A site for Buddhist scriptures available in English -- a great project!

6. Use of Cryptography to gain security. A highly technical topic that warrants a clean and pragmatic information site.  Requires much research

7. Environmental guide for Stanford. Do contact the new Environmental project at Stanford, maybe they need a web site? Now http://environment.stanford.edu.  [Katharine C. Neal, Communications Manager, Woods Institute for the Environment. Stanford University, 429 Arguello Way, Encina Modular C, Stanford, CA  94305-6030, Phone:   650 724-0480]

8.      Herbal medicine reference site. Are there professional organizations that would be interested in sponsoring such a site?  It became a very nice site focusing on Skin care.

9.      Informational and donation site for Japanese Hostages held in North Korea. Link to the group in Japan which now has little International visibility.

10.  International Schools information and resources sharing site

11.  Advice for Investors. A very competitive topic.  IOt requires narrowing of the audience.

12.  Dealing with the Housing Draw. Suggestions, plan on improving it?

         Suggestions for other topics

1.      A website to provide information for people that want to help in a disaster: Location of resources, who to contact. Resources could be as diverse as boats, telephone poles, volunteer organizations, communications companies that have emergency facilities ...

2.      The diminution of the nation state when physical locality matters less.

3.      Internet business opportunities you see, due to Internet problems you are experiencing

Note, there is nothing wrong with having an idea, and finding out that others had it too. Good opportunity for study.

3. Miscellaneous Questions

  1. Why do I use a funny date format?  Making today 08.04.06 is the worst.
  2. Why do I start numbering from zero? I'm a nerd. I count in binary.
  3. Does anyone not use MS Word?  That's adequate, even if not great.

4. To do

Think about what your project and the world it will live in will look like 4 years from now. That is the initial writing assignment.

Try making a mini-webpage, My web page, insert a picture of you maybe, save it as mywebpage.htm(l), and then view  the source by pointing your browser to it.
