Nathan Review Of Brick And Click

Mackenzie Banks – Brick and Click

The content of your page is solid (or appears that is will be when finished); the main point I would emphasize is clarity and organization. It is a bit hard to navigate the site as it stands, and different topics seems to blend together a little bit and are hard to distinguish.

Front page

I assume that the site will eventually have an effective front page which summarizes the main aspects of the site, who it exists for, and what it aims to accomplish.

Pro/Con sections

Regarding the first two pages that have been completed so far (advantages and disadvantages of brick and mortar and internet businesses) – this contact could be streamlined. First of all, it would probably be possible to integrate these two into one page. Often the brick and mortar page describes pros and cons in comparison to internet businesses, and I suspect the same will occur on the internet page. It could be more efficient, to explicitly link them to avoid redundancy, perhaps creating a single table with headings such as “inspection of goods,” “convenience,” etc. and the columns for the positive aspects of both systems.

I think you might consider reorganizing the information slightly in these pages as well. There is some redundancy – the fact that the customer can inspect the good in a physical store is mentioned a couple times, so perhaps it should all be brought into “inspection of goods” to be distinct. Also, I feel as though “accountability” and “reliability” blend together a bit, and could probably be combined into one bullet. Essentially, be careful about seeing what your main bullets are and keep them as self-contained as possible.

Content-wise, a couple other things you might include here are the pressures of dealing with salespeople, and the differences in browsing techniques (a search box versus aisles and shelves), the convenience of paying by cash as opposed to credit card, the social interaction factor, and the ease of looking up online information such as reviews of specific products (this ties in closely to being able to shop around and compare).

Section Layout

In addition to possibly combining the two pro/con sections, you might add another section describing the various innovations of the “brick and click” paradigm, in apposition to purely internet or purely physical stores, to explain in a concise location what precisely you mean by “brick and click.”

Writing and Clarity

Your exposition is very clear and effective. The only thing I would say is to bring important points to the fore more readily, to make information easier to scan. As far as layout, I would try to make the various sections more clear as to their content sidebar. Also, you might add some sort of slogan to the top of every page so that it is clear what your website is about from any point of entry.

As far as layout, the page is attractive and easy to read. I would suggest that you change the format of the pro/con page to bullets rather than distinct boxes. I think it would convey the feel of the page a bit better, but perhaps this is just my preference.
