Overview Karan seeks to make a website that best serves the needs of the "library of the future," Meyer library. Karan envisions a future library that, rather than being a traditional library where books are loaned out and resources are used inside, Meyer assists users to get the information they need to get work done. Karan hopes to have his interactive, user-friendly website supplement the help that customers already receive through the consultants at the second-floor Technology Services Desk. Praises: It is clear that Karan has a lot of experience with Meyer and has thought deeply about the needs of Meyer, and how a website could best alleviate the inefficiencies at the library. I really liked his proposal of the automated poster printing system, where users can submit their print requests online and save them a visit or two. Suggestions: One suggestion that I have for Karan is to simplify the website a little. As a user, I probably would have reached the Meyer site looking for the answer to either a common question: “what are your hours?” or a more specific question: “how do you scan a coursereader into pdf format?” However, the most common questions could probably be answered by a few categories (as opposed to the copious specific questions on the right side of the page) and a few of the nineteen links in the banner at the top of the page could be categorized. As Karan gets search functionality on his page, he will probably be able to consolidate more links and have users simply search for the more specific questions. |
