Doug’s Hardware Although I’ve already submitted three possible options for my website, there is one more idea I am interested in exploring further. This idea is to create something like an Official Stanford Technology Review. The basic premise is to create a site like http://www.tomshardware.com/. While my site would most probably be similar in concept to Tom’s Hardware, it would be unique and different for several reasons. First, when on the web, it is difficult to tell the authenticity of a source. That is, when reading about a new Dell Monitor on Tom’s Hardware, it would be difficult to determine whether or not Tom’s Hardware was paid to write a positive review. My site seeks to be impartial in its reviews, and while I would be willing to accept advertising, it would be clear which parts of the site were advertising and which parts were actual reviews. Furthermore, as a freshman I recently experience the trouble in trying to pick the best hardware configuration for the computer I was bringing to school. What works best in a dorm room? Is size really a matter? What about CRTs, will my desk have room? Even if my site was revenue neutral, I find new technology to be particularly exciting, and having a chance to constantly test and review new technology would be a very interesting and fun experience for me. Other interesting dynamics could be official sponsorship through Stanford, or at least, endorsement. Bulk purchasing discounts (not dell) for a couple very popularly configured laptops and desktops?
