AP S-assignment1
Assignment #1
Background
My website will be
about alcohol, specifically aiming to entertain and educate college drinkers at
the same time. Alcohol has been an
enduring part of college life for a long time despite unrelenting attempts by
parents and anti-drug administrations to stop its prevalence. Alcohol is a vital part of college life, and
alcohol more often than not contributes to the reason many associate college
with the best time of their life.
The Future
Four years from
now (and even longer), I am completely confident that nothing will have
changed, as the general consensus on college alcohol consumption websites is
that 4 in 5 college students drink.
Alcohol is so ingrained and inseparable from college life, that I
believe a better means of education about alcohol is the best means of preventing
all the dangers associated with drinking.
With the popularization of the internet, programs such as alcoholedu
have surfaced in an attempt to use the internet to educate.
Why F**ked up Friday?
Alcoholedu is a
mandatory online educational programs that incoming college freshman must
complete. These programs are designed to
educate soon-to-be college students about the dangers and effects of alcohol on
their mental and physical health. While
Alcoholedu is not a bad idea in and of itself, the program falls victim to the
same problems that have plagued other alcohol education attempts: The programs
preach about the evils of alcohol and how bad it is, which is something
teenagers have heard their entire lives and have ignored their entire
lives. Thus, attempts such as Alcoholedu
are merely another hassle that the vast majority of teenagers pay no
attention. On the other hand, there are
sites such as collegehumour, which glorify not only alcohol itself, but also
imbibing excess quantities of alcohol and doing stupid things.
F**cked up
Friday will be a hybrid of the too, in an attempt to educate teens through
a method they will actually pay attention to.
